With more than 20 years of clinical practice, Don Purcell, MD, brings his expertise and experience as a consulting psychiatrist at Blackhawk TMS, located in Danville and Napa, California. He specializes in adult psychiatry and provides mental-health care for pain management, stress, depression, bipolar disorder, and sleep disorders. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, Dr. Purcell went on to complete his doctor of medicine at the University of Texas in Houston. He remained in Houston to conduct research at the University of Texas Health Center, MD Anderson Cancer Hospital. He then went on to complete his internship and residency training in both internal medicine and psychiatry at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.

Dr. Purcell is dedicated to his profession and has given over 300 presentations on a wide variety of medical and general health-related topics for continuing medical education and continuing education credit. He’s also published medical research and authored a patient-physician oriented self-help book on managing stress and health during times of personal growth and change called “The Power of Change.”

He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American College of Physicians.
